"Sofa" is the name of this piece. It falls in the category of what I call "energy field" pieces that are not meant to portray anything other than the strength of the stuff itself and which nearly always fill the frame entirely, suggesting continuation in all directions. The dance of the hand coupled with the dimensionality of the tool's output is the essence of the piece. As one would look at a Jackson Pollock or a Mark Rothko piece and try to determine the artist's intention, so must one approach this panel. This is about tension and release, coiling and uncoiling. In truth, it is a piece about all that energy when two individuals are drawn together. It is physical, fields of magnetism that pull two people together, invisible made visible. Frank Zappa has a song name "Sofa #1" and Ezra Pound mentions the "buzzing of invisible antennae" that is the magic that ultimately perpetuates our species.
